Yobbos? Ratbags?

by

Say what you will about the racial violence rearing its naughty head in Australia (and I know you will); I just love the vernacular Down Under.  Reading these local news reports out of Cronulla is like reading A Clockwork Orange.  How can I not incorporate “yobbo” into daily use now?

Funny how we in Australia take words like ‘yobbo’ (supposedly derived from ‘yob’ = ‘backward boy’) and ratbag for granted until we notice someone hearing them new.

Oh, that’s too good. I love yobbo even more now that I know its (granted, supposed) provenance. Thank you!
